Prompt #7: Should performance appraisals for managers be abolished?

Should we abolished and a new framework established for evaluating the work of managers.  The newspaper article that is related to my major is titled ”time to scrap performance appraisals?” the article raises the critical questions about the future of appraisals by arguing that times have changed and many organizations are considering to conduct a radical change of their existing performance appraisals frameworks. The article goes ahead to provide reasons and examples in an attempt to justify why it is worth for modern organizations to change their performance appraisal process. The exciting aspect of this article is that it is articulate, organized and direct to the point. Also, the discussion presented on the page ties to other questions raised by other authors about trends that make people question the effectiveness of performance appraisal process used currently by organizations. The purpose of the article thus is to persuade readers particularly managers that it is time for change and time for trying something new.

The scholarly article related to my field is "performance appraisal: a supervision or leadership tool?” by Cintrón Rosa and Flaniken Forrest. The journal is well structured and comprehensive in its approach to the above topic. The way information is presented in the article is remarkable; however, the source does not dig deep into the issues that have been raised on the blog. Whereas the article recognizes the part played by performance appraisal and the fact the future is uncertain, it does not question why organizations need alternative tools for evaluating employee performance.

With the changes witnessed in the current corporate environment, it seems logical for articles to question the future of performance appraisals. The topic has caught the attention of number stakeholders now who are asking whether the existing appraisal tools can be trusted given the changing economic times.
