Expanding Your Network

The most important aspect of business is the human being. The human is the driving lifeblood of business and without people there would be no business. A business operates through different individuals interacting and working together. Interaction between other people to exchange information and develop contact, or networking, is extremely important in the business world. If you have a good network of people around you the more likely it is for you to be successful.

How does one build up and improve their network? Colleen DeBaise from entrepreneur.com came up with basic tips to improve your network. DeBaise encourages people to attend networking events and show up early to them. If you show up early, less people will be there and people would not have settled into groups yet. It will be easier for you to find and talk to people if you show up early.

Another tip DeBaise gives is to keep the conversations light. Don't be all about business; try to be more personable. Let the other person bring up the business talk. You will be more memorable if you have a personal conversation with them than if you were to just talk about business. Above all else, smile and be friendly. The more personable you are the larger your network will grow.
